Sally Ride dies
Sally Ride, America's first female astronaut, has died at age 61.

Dr. Sally Ride goes through fire training procedures at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., August 24, 1982. Ride, along with astronauts Bob Crippen, Fred Hauck, and John Fabian, were aboard the seventh mission of the space shuttle, set for April 1983. The trip would make her the first American woman in space.
